NEWS ABOUT THE GREAT IRISH BOOKS
The cartographer for The Iveragh Peninsula: A Cultural Atlas of the Ring of Kerry, Mike Murphy, of the Department of Geography, UCC, has won the Society of Cartographers prestigious 'Wallis" Award for 2009 for his work on the book. He won the same award for his work on the Atlas of Cork City (9781859183809) in 2006 and is the only Irish person to have ever done so.
Gerry Hunt, author of Blood Upon the Rose appeared on Friday, 2nd October, on the Tom Dunne Show on Newstalk 106-108 FM.
Colm Breathnach, author of Con Trick an Bhalla Bháin was in Croke Park on Tuesday 29th September to accept second prize for fiction in An tOireachtas literary awards. These are the premier awards for Irish-language literature. An tOireachtas literary awards, now in their 112th year are the premier awards for Irish-language literature.
Brian Ó Conchubhair, author of Fin de Siecle na Gaeilge was the winner of the first prize for non-fiction in the An tOireachtas literary awards. Originally from Co. Kerry, Ó Conchubhair who is a Professor in Notre Dame University in the United States travelled to Ireland on Tuesday 29th September to accept his prize at a ceremony in Croke Park. An tOireachtas literary awards, now in their 112th year are the premier awards for Irish-language literature.
Signed copies of Flying Finn will be available today, Friday 22nd October, from Hughes & Hughes and Eason, Swords, and Waterstones, Jervis Centre.
